-- From P.M. News (Lagos), December 24, 1999: "Shina Peters' Monica Lewinsky? The city of Lagos and indeed the entire Nigeria has been agog since its presentation Friday last week, with Sir Shina Peters' latest work titled: 'Play Mate SSP 2000.'

"No doubt, the work is a beautiful one which boasts some of Shina Peters' finest renditions ever. This fact Shina himself affirmed but demonstrated modestly when he said he would not blow his own trumpet. 'I'll rather allow my greatest critics and friends listen to the work and judge for themselves,' he said at the presentation.

"The work has inspirational songs like 'Love,' where he implored warring parties in the country to bury their hatchet and of course, the flip side which is dedicated to his mentor, Godwin Anabor. Perhaps the most controversial aspect of the work is the fourth track on side A where Shina inquired after the owner of Monica Lewinsky. His fans and music critics are arguing that Shina may have composed that song to clear himself of the allegation by one Joke Andu who claimed she had a baby for him but that Shina refused to accept the pregnancy.

"Critics say the lyrics of the song where Shina said he should not be turned to a father of many children (ema so mi di baba dozen e rora) is too much a coincidence not to have been targeted at any other person aside from Joke Andu. Picking holes in such belief, however, Shina Peters' image maker, Femi Davies, said Shina only sang the song to comment on a disturbing trend whereby ladies always allege that well-to-do acquaintances are responsible for their pregnancy ala Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky of America.

"Is Shina singing from experience?"
